On a set, there are many people that each have their own role. Each role comes with a lot of duties and skill they must have or learn along the way. There are ten roles needed to succesfully perform a job, however, more then one person can do some of these jobs...
This job is a senior role within a TV camera department. Camera operators have high expectation as they are controlling the cameras and there for are filming every piece of footage and can not screw up or lose focus. With no cameras, there would be no film.
The camera operator needs to have advanced technical skills, such as;
-The ability to carry out instructions with great accuracy and atention to detail - This is because they will have total control over what is being shown on the viewers televisions, if they were not able to follow instructions with detail and/or accuracy, what we see on screen would be out of focus or pointing in the wrong direction.
- They must also know how to use the cameras correctly - This is due to the fact that if they didn't know, for say, how to record or even turn the camera on, they would be filming live or as live and there would be nothing recored or even on screen.
- The camera operator must have in-depth knowledge of electronics with IT skills - As they are around electric equiptment and cameras, they should have the skill to know how to deal with such things.
- They must have good communtication skills with the ability to work for long hours - This is because they are working with other people,
especialy other camera operators and the floor manager, so they must be able to communicate well with good manners, especialy if they are stuck with their collegues for a long period of time. - Have good colour vision and hand-eye co-ordination - Due to the fact that they are working with high-tech equiptment, they must know where to aim and must be very careful, and having good colour vision helps when working with camera, knowing what each colour light means as well as working with codes or keys.
- Lastly they must have a clear understanding of the rules and safetly regulations - This is because they are working with a lot of other people in usualy a limited space with alot of wires and expensive equiptment, they must know how to behave sensibly and responsibly around such equiptment, also knowing all emergency drills incase of a fire or an accident.
Camera operators not only have to develop skills, but they also have certain duties that they must undertake each time they are reqired to film;
- They must be on time to set - If they are late, no filming will be done, especialy if it is live, they must not be late or the timing of the live production on tv will be late and viewers will not be pleased.
- They must make sure thy have all the correct camera eqiptment if they are filming on location - Simple, without the camera equiptment, nothing will be filmed.
- They must have learnt the script and the camera movements and what order they go in - This is extremely important, especialy for game shows filmed as live as the order in which each camera goes in, if one camera is late to record or move to the correct shot, it will confuse the audience and/or ruin the order of the script.
Director
The director probably has the most important job. They plan what goes on, what goes where, the times for what happens, and withou the director, the set would be a mess with no hierachy to set things straight.
The director has o have pretty much the same basic skills as everyone else, for example;
- Having good communication skills - This is because they will have to talk to each and every person at some point during the day, especially the people in the booth with all the computer equiptment.
- They must be patient - Working with a lot of people can be tiring, so they must be patient and calm, if they are calm and relaxed, then the rest of the crew should follow as the director is the most senior role.
- The director has other skills, such as financial and marketing skills - This is because he/she is planning what everything will look/sound like, so they have to think of the bigger picture, what will make people want to watch/buy their product. They must have the skill to be able to sell something to an audience, make them want to watch the show they are submitting.
The director not only has to have the skills, but they have alot of duties;
- They must be on time/earlier than the others - As they are in control of the whole set, they have to be on time to not only set a good example, but also to make sure everything is ready and in place for the filming they will soon begin.
- They must have a good knowledge of the script at hand - Knowing when to cue the cuts, the graphics, the lights and/or the guests if needed. As they will have to doa countdown at least ten seconds before they go on set, they must know before hand what is coming up next.

The people at the ligthting desk are quite important, they are in control of the whole lighting for that set, especially when inside.

nt. - They must pay attention to detal and follow instructions - On lighting desks, there are a lot ofbuttons, levers and symbols. The lighting operators must know what each of these do, and must be able to follow instrustions by the director in a short period of time, with the correct precision and detail.
- They must have good colour vision - Not all of the lights and/or buttons are the same colour, they must know what button puts on which colour light so they must have that memory to know which is which aswell as understanding the order of the colours.
